Welcome to Maude Hog and Cattle. We have been farming and ranching on the Cheyenne River in western South Dakota since 1907.

This whole meat business began with Charles, when he was showing pigs in 4-H. His dad purchased a boar for him to breed his show gilts to, and before his first litter arrived, all the hogs were sold.

Fast forward a few years, and Charles and Heather met and were married. Surprisingly enough to both of them, Heather quickly fell in love with the pigs.

Upon the arrival of their oldest child, Heather opted to step back from her freelance ag journalism and photography business, and put more effort into marketing butcher hogs.

As the business grew, the couple identified the need to offer more than just half and whole butcher hogs, and began working toward marketing retail cuts of pork within western South Dakota.

In 2018, the Black Hills Farmers Market asked Charles and Heather if they could offer grain finished beef in addition to pork, and the answer was yes.

Today the business sells whole and half butcher hogs and quarter, half and whole beef, in addition to offering a complete retail lineup of over 55 cuts of beef and pork every Saturday at the Black Hills Farmers Market.

Charles and Heather are proud to showcase the result of generations of work on both sides of their family through sourcing any beef they don’t raise themselves from their parents and siblings. They personally raise every hog they sell.

From the beginning, Charles and Heather have identified raising exceptional end quality beef and pork as a primary goal. Their other focus has always been to use this business as a way for Heather to stay home with their kids, raising them in the farming and ranching lifestyle.
